Far from the rivers, water is more precious.

Since 2007, SOLON cooperate with Associazione Bashù (a small NGO based in Padova) to install photovoltaic pumping systems in small Eritrean villages where no pumping systems had existed and a very high number of childhood diseases had been related to undrinkable water use. The PV water pumping systems have supplied water to approximately 4,000 people. Unfortunately only the 20% of the Eritrean population have access to drinkable water: it means that 3.200.000 people live with only 10 liters/day of not drinkable water. It’s wonderful to see how the access to the water can change the life: from a 90% disease reduction to a germinal form of democracy thanks to the “Village water committee”.
And it’s also financially sustainable because, thanks to the use of the solar modules, no additional cost for gasoline is needed (in Eritrea fuel cost 2 €/liter!)… and finally, no CO2 is generated.
